Successful Aboriginal Schools Showcased
[April 22, 2007 - Winnipeg] Promising approaches for improving Aboriginal education will be showcased Wednesday, April 25 at the University of Winnipeg.
Three schools featured in a recent national study of successful aboriginal schools have been invited to share their strategies with Manitoba educators, researchers, government officials, and First Nations representatives. Mount Carmel Elementary from Kenora, Ontario; Wapanohk Community School in Thompson, Manitoba; and Chief Jimmy Bruno School located north of Yellowknife, NT, will share their inspiring stories.
University of Winnipeg Professor, Dr. George Fulford, who conducted the study in 2006 with a team of four regional researchers will present his findings about practices associated with success in the ten exemplary schools examined. The program takes place at the Duckworth Centre, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. It is sponsored by the Society for the Advancement of Excellence in Education (SAEE) which commissioned the research.
