Sharing Our Success: Ten Case Studies in Aboriginal Schooling

In recent years, federal and provincial governments have acknowledged the disturbing educational success rates for Aboriginal students. While a few isolated programs demonstrate exceptional success, there is a need for shared Canadian research on school level practices associated with positive achievement for aboriginal students.
Sharing Our Success provides case studies of 10 schools across four western provinces and the Yukon for insights into 'what works' in creating academic progress for Aboriginal students. The research was conducted between June 2003 and April 2004 by principal investigator, Dr. David Bell and co-authors, Dr. Sheila Rose, Dr. Kirk Anderson, Terry Fortin, Keith Spencer, Leon Simard, and Jackie Ottoman.
A comprehensive report was published May 2004, offering a detailed case study of each school, analysis of common practices, and a set of recommendations for policy and practice. This research commissioned by SAEE was made possible through research grants from a Canadian foundation, the Canadian Language and Literacy Research Network (CLLRNet), the BC Ministry of Education, and Northland School Division, Alberta.
