The Society for the Advancement of Excellence in Education provides non-partisan education research and information to policy-makers, education partners and the public. Our purpose is to encourage higher performance throughout Canada's public education system.

Teacher Preparation Programs

To date there has been little systematic examination of Canada’s diverse teacher preparation programs which graduate approximately 15,000 new teachers per year. This study will provide a baseline portrait of undergraduate teacher education programs across the country. The data will be drawn from surveys of faculties of education, new teachers from these programs, and their principals in 2007.

Co- investigators in this study are Memorial University researchers, Robert Crocker and David Dibbon, and Dr. Victor Glickman of the University of British Columbia. They are supported by Insightrix Research who will conduct the surveys.

A report on the findings will be published in the spring 2008. The research was commissioned by SAEE with grants from the Max Bell Foundation and Donner Canadian Foundation.
